This past weekend was our Confirmation Retreat up at Horton Center. Every person in our gathered community engaged in wonderful conversation and exploration of questions of faith. It was a gift to hear about each one’s encounter with the Divine.
One of our youth, Savanah from the Congregational Church of North Barnstead, wrote a poem on Saturday afternoon. She shared it with us as our opening for communion on Sunday morning. For me, it is like the perfect welcome to the table for a World Communion Sunday.
With permission, I share with you Savanah’s poem:
Together
We sit here
Awkward,
New,
Strangers,
Strangers together
We talk,
I ask,
You answer,
Not so strange,
Together,
The night goes on,
We laugh,
You hear my lines,
I ask about yours,
We shift to the right,
Together,
We wake with the bell,
Together,
We walk a path of silence,
Together,
We watch the stars,
We listen to the crickets,
We laugh,
We joke,
Together,
We eat together,
We play together,
We laugh,
We sit in deep thought silence,
Together,
I sit here looking at this group,
Of awkward questions,
And silly answers,
Then all of a sudden I know,
That we all came here to be,
Together
