As we move into the month of September, preparations for our Conference Annual Meeting start to become a major part of my focus. This year, I am also starting to focus on what I’ll be doing the week after Annual Meeting.
October 27th through 30th, I will be in Washington DC, joining with other Conference Ministers and the leaders from the UCC Washington DC office to engage in some advocacy. Wednesday, October 29th, will be the key day during our visit. We are scheduled to meet with the staffs of several of our senators and congresspeople as well as holding a press conference on the Capital grounds.
We are still working on focusing our topics for our advocacy. I will say more about this in the weeks ahead.
I bring up this trip now, because I would like to invite your partnership. I know many of you, as part of your faith life, welcome the opportunity to engage in advocacy. So, if you desire, I am offering to bring any letters you would like to write to our New Hampshire senators and congresspeople and will ensure your letters get delivered to their offices. (I hope many of them I’ll be able to deliver personally, but some I may need to ask the good folks in the UCC Washington DC to assist me.) I will accept any letters your would like to send with me up through the end of our Annual Meeting day on October 25th.
I think it will make a profound impression if I am able to follow up my own advocacy by leaving a whole pile of letters with each of our senators and congresspeople saying this is what people of faith in New Hampshire care about.
