“The Spirit of God is upon me,
because I have been anointed
to bring good news to the poor,
to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of God’s favor.”
Luke 4:18-19
In the Gospel According to Luke this is Jesus’ first public statement, a message of advocacy for those who are marginalized, of empowerment for those who are oppressed, a proclamation that things are going to be different this year.
Tomorrow, January 8, 2025, is the opening day for our New Hampshire legislature. In all our focus on national politics, the work being done at the state level sometimes gets overlooked and forgotten. So, I wanted to thank the many, many NHCUCC members who, either as active legislators themselves or as advocates throughout the state, work tirelessly to bring Jesus’ words into reality. May they know the strengthening vision Jesus held in their hearts and together may we work to make this the year of God’s favor.
With you on the journey,
Sara Marean
