Opioid Crisis Mission Group

Helping Hand

Mission Statement

To educate ourselves, to educate our congregations, and to educate our conference.Everywhere

Though our own church members, their families and friends are being impacted by addiction, there have been little or no productive efforts to prepare churches to offer support and care for these folks. Due to the stigma of addiction, silence is often the only response.

Comprised of both clergy and laity, this Mission Group is taking on the challenge of reaching out and being the church through liturgy, prayer, information and educational outreach. The church is called to be a stronger, more loving presence for those affected.

Caring for Your Congregation in the Opioid Crisis:
A Clergy Training Workshop here in New Hampshire

May 3, 2018 - 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

At a time when so many are struggling with opioid addiction, clergy are invited to participate in a training workshop that will increase your ability to support your congregants and perhaps even save lives.
The program is entitled "Caring for Your Congregation in the Opioid Crisis: A Clergy Training Workshop." and is being offered at the New Hampshire Conference United Church of Christ, 140 Sheep Davis Road, Pembroke, NH on May 3, 2018 from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm.

The workshop leaders are Edward Schreiber and the Rev. Susan Grant Rosen. Edward Schreiber is Director of Outpatient Substance Use Services at ServiceNet, Northampton/Greenfield. He is a therapist, program leader, trainer and author who has taught nationally and internationally. Rev. Susan Grant Rosen is a United Church of Christ minister. For the past two years, she has worked with Pioneer Valley and New Hampshire congregations around their response to the opioid crisis.
